* Routine prescriptions
We dispense prescriptions to both NHS and private patients. Our computer system not only produces labels for
medicines being dispensed, but also keeps a record of such items. It can also record details of any advice given
to patients about their healthcare and lifestyle. The pharmacist can give you information about your medication
and how to use it safely. We comply with the Data Protection Act and the NHS code of practice on
confidentiality.
* Repeat prescriptions
Home Delivery: We will collect your repeat prescriptions from your doctor's surgery and, if you wish, deliver
them straight to your door - totally free of charge. (You will need to complete a registration form for this.)
Please ask the pharmacist for further information and to check that your Doctor's surgery takes part in this
scheme.
This service is only available to patients of these surgeries who have a valid, up-to-date, repeat prescription.
* Help to stop smoking
In conjunction with the local Health Authority, we offer a one-to-one smoking cessation programme designed to help
you stop - once and for all!
* Monitored Dosage Systems
If either yourself or someone you care for has problems remembering how or when to take prescribed medication, we
may be able to help with a compliance device. This is usually a cassette or card filled with one week's supply of
medicine, split into different times of the day for each day of the week. Please note, however, that such a device
might not be suitable for all patients and potential candidates will need to be assessed before such an aid can be
offered. You should also mention this to your G.P. Please ask your pharmacist for details.
* Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC)
This is commonly known as the "morning after pill". Not strictly accurate! In fact, it is effective for up to 72
hours after unprotected intercourse though we would stress that it is best used as soon as possible. We can
provide EHC at the pharmacy during opening hours; no appointment is necessary.
NB: We operate an NHS funded EHC scheme which means that when an accredited pharmacist is available
the "morning after pill" is available at no charge.
* Unwanted Medications
We are happy for you to return all your unwanted and unused medications to us for safe disposal. We cannot,
however, accept used "sharps" (needles etc), though Health Centres (Clinics) will normally take these from you
for destruction - please ask a member of the pharmacy team if you require any further information.
* Over The Counter Service
We stock a large range of products suitable for self-treatment of most common ailments as well as most types of
vitamin and mineral products.
* Enhanced Services
Our pharmacy meets all essential service requirements as stipulated by the NHS contract. We also provide a number
of other services as shown below and hope to develop these and add others over time:
Enhanced Services
Medicines Use Reviews
You can make an appointment with our pharmacist to discuss how you are getting on with your regular medicines. It will allow you to learn more about your medicines and ask any questions you may have, and if you are having difficulties taking your medicines our pharmacist may be able to assist. Ask for more details on this service.
Advanced Services
Minor Ailments Scheme
This Pharmacy takes part in the local Minor Ailments Scheme. Patients may be given a Minor Ailments voucher from their GP (Check with your GP practice for eligibility) this means for certain minor ailments you don't need to wait to see the doctor as you can get advice and treatment from your pharmacist. The Pharmacist can prescribe medicines to treat these conditions effectively and they will be free if you are exempt from prescription charges. The Pharmacist or trained pharmacy staff will need to ask suitable questions to ensure you get the appropriate treatment. Sometimes they may decide not to supply a medicine but will always give advice. In some circumstances it may be necessary to refer you back to your GP.
Supply of Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC)
EHC can be obtained from this pharmacy free of charge when an accredited pharmacist is available.
Extra Services
Emergency Supplies
If you need one of your regular medicines in an emergency when you are unable to contact your doctor, we may be able to help.
We must stress that this can only be done in genuine emergencies and it may incur a charge.
If you would like any more information about any of the services mentioned, please ask a member of staff or telephone 01902 621853.
